Hiking & Fishing

Lots of hiking and mountain climbs

Hiking

Deer Valley is surrounded by beautiful mountain country - God's country - and we're glad to walk you through it. Our vacation hikes range from easy, one-hour hikes before breakfast to an all day mountain climb at the end of the week.
We start you out slowly with a 1/2 mile hike to a lovely waterfall and a downhill hike on an old railroad bed. Once acclimated on your hiking vacation, we'll take you on a stretch of the Colorado Trail or perhaps a wildflower hike for the ladies. Hikes for all ages Another day we might lead you to Grizzly Lake, a gorgeous lake at 10,000' elevation. Hike to an old gold and silver mine that was booming over a hundred years ago. Want a challenge? John will offer a mountain climb to any takers. You'll be climbing a 13,000 or 14,000 foot peak and haveWildflowers galore a hiking vacation experience to write home about! The view from one of those peaks is indescribable.....well, you've got to experience it for yourself!

"Without a doubt, (our week at Deer Valley) was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I saw God everywhere there."- Doug from Sugar Land, TX

Fishing

Majestic mountains, blue skies and clear, rocky streams....you won't get a better fishing vacation than this. Don't know how we fish our mountain streams and lakes? John will teach you how to fly fish, first at our lodge and then at one of his secret fishing spots.
Another day, arise early and we'll drive you to a remote trailhead where you'll hike into a high mountain lake, away from the crowds, to fish for native trout. Just the hike is amazing! Fishing in both streams and lakes
Nearby, our own stocked lake is ideal for children and the whole family. You can catch and release or we can fry up your fish for dinner that evening! Serious fly fishermen can find all the action they want after the June run-off. Chalk Creek is on the ranch, the Arkansas River is six miles away and the South Platte is only a 45 minute drive.

"We just wanted to thank you for a WONDERFUL week. We didn't know what to expect but you and your staff far exceeded anything we had in mind. Your hospitality and the genuine caring service of your staff was amazing.....My husband enjoyed every hike he went on and feels he doesn't need pictures because he can still see the mountains, cliffs and the gorgeous scenery."" - Sandra from Louisburg, Kansas
